Public Health Ambassadors Uganda (PHAU) and MTV Stay Alive Foundation wanted to engage 2000 boda boda riders in Wakiso District by May 2019 on HIV /AIDS a wareness.
Despite the progress made in fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge, there is a high prevalence of
HIV/AIDS among boda boda riders have been identified as one of the populations with high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. A survey conducted by Makerere University School of Public Health, Ministry of Health and Center for Disease Control and Prevention on high-risk groups for HIV/AIDS in the Kampala metropolitan area found an HIV prevalence rate of 7.5% among boda boda raiders, in comparison to the 4.5% prevalence in Kampala men.
We used the ‘Ludo’ board game to sustain a conversation around HIV/AIDS prevention in the language and norms the boda boda riders understood. “Ludo” is one of the most popular board games played by boda boda riders, for entertainment while parked at different boda boda stages.
